Location of Posewitz in Dornburg-Camburg

Posewitz is a hamlet-like small settlement , it is a district of the city of Dornburg-Camburg in the Saale-Holzland district .

geography

Posewitz is halfway between Camburg and Zöthen .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1271. The place belonged to the Wettin office of Camburg , which belonged to different Ernestine duchies due to several divisions in the course of its existence .

During the withdrawal of parts of the defeated Napoleonic troops in autumn 1813, the manor house in Posewitz was confiscated and converted into a French emergency hospital. At the cemetery of the manor near the manor, those who died in the military hospital were buried in communal graves, as were Austrian soldiers later. The military cemetery deteriorated during the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR. There is no longer a single gravestone of soldiers or landowners, just a rusted enclosure of a former family grave. An informative display shows the history of the "French Cemetery". There is no reference to the cemetery on the street.

In 1826 Posewitz came as part of the Camburg exclave from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . From 1922 to 1939 the place belonged to the Camburg district department .

On July 1, 1950 Posewitz was incorporated into Zöthen.

economy

The Posewitz manor house, expropriated without compensation at the time of the Soviet occupation zone, was used as an apprentice residence in the GDR, and it also housed the municipal administration. After the fall of the Wall, the property was privatized and became the center of a newly founded Trakehner stud . The SWINGGROUND riding arena surface was also manufactured in Posewitz. The production of the riding arena surface and the stud farm have meanwhile been given up. Since 2014, the estate has been home to a stables for riding horses and the Broken Wheel Ranch (breeding by American Quarter Horses).
