Hirschroda is a district of the town of Dornburg-Camburg in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . The place has about 100 inhabitants.

Geography and landscape

Hirschroda is located on the Ilm-Saale-Platte on the slopes of a side valley of the Saale valley in the east. Dornburg is south of the village and 1 km to the west is Wilsdorf , another district. The town of Bad Sulza and thus the Weimarer Land district borders the district in the north . The independent city of Jena is 14 km south.

The landscape is characterized by wide arable land in the south and meadows and forest areas on the slopes in the north. Geologically, the corridor belongs to the Upper Muschelkalk , overlaid by loess in the north .

The significant Lohholz nature reserve is located on the border between Hirschroda and Eckolstädt .

history

As an extension of Dornburg Castle, the "Heroldisrode", first mentioned in 1369 in a document from the cathedral monastery archive in Naumburg, was founded in the 12th or 13th century by clearing the forest areas north of Dornburg. At the same time, the Bernsroda and Warssenrode settlements seem to have emerged. Bernsroda is a desert in the valley northeast of Hirschroda.

The ownership structure in the 14th century seems unclear until it was mentioned in the register of possessions of the Margraves of Meißen in 1378. It is not mentioned in the loan book of Friedrich des Strengen from 1349/50. In the 15th century, the Bürgel monastery near Jena acquired a number of properties in the area. Since 1539 at the latest it has been a purely administrative village of the Dornburg Office . The oldest tradition from court owners comes from the period 1421–1425.

There is evidence of a chapel since 1506. In 1728 the present baroque church was built. A stone with the year 1651 is embedded in the tower.

In the period from 1400 to 1800 there lived a total of over 400 families, which are almost completely documented despite large gaps in the sources.

The Protestant village church Hirschroda was given its present form in 1728.

Hirschroda was occupied by US troops in April 1945 and handed over to the Red Army in early July . So it became part of the Soviet Zone and, from 1949, of the GDR .

On March 16, 1963, Hirschroda was incorporated into the city of Dornburg / Saale .

House No. 2 has a Renaissance portal.
