Wonnitz is a hamlet-like district of the city of Dornburg-Camburg in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

history

The first mention given by W. Kahl on July 13, 1271. refers to an incorrect assignment by Otto Dobencker in his documents. Dobencker, on the other hand, has it from Paul Dietze and his history of the Lausnitz monastery, in which "Wunzich" is written. Rather, this refers to the Wunschitz desert near Graitschen auf der Höhe. The oldest secure document for Wonnitz dates back to 1278. Here Wunniz is clearly mentioned in connection with Volkmar von Camburg and the Eisenberg monastery. The next mention was made in 1286, when another estate in Wonnitz was bequeathed to the Eisenberg monastery. The oldest surviving register of the city's inhabitants goes back to the first third of the 15th century.

Ecclesiastically, Wonnitz was part of the parish of St. Petersberg north of Camburg, until this branch of Camburg was dissolved in the 1530s and at the end of the 16th century. In the 17th century Wonnitz was parish directly to Camburg and is still part of it today. The place does not have its own church.

Wonnitz belonged to the Wettin office of Camburg , which was under the sovereignty of various Ernestine duchies due to several divisions in the course of its existence . In 1826, the place came as part of the Camburg exclave from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . From 1922 to 1939 the place belonged to the Camburg district department .

On July 1, 1950, Wonnitz was incorporated into Zöthen. Today it is part of the city of Dornburg-Camburg.
