Bremsnitz is a municipality in the southeast of the Saale-Holzland district and part of the Hügelland / Täler administrative community in Thuringia .

The district of Bremsnitz is located southeast in the Saale-Holzland district and is one of the so-called valley villages . They are mostly located in the valley, on slopes and on higher levels in the area mentioned. The fox hill limits the corridor from the district with forest to the east. The district road 111, which runs through the district , is connected to state road 2318.

The small community is away from the main streams of traffic. The federal highway 281 runs about 10 kilometers south of Bremsnitz. The closest motorway junction is Hermsdorf-Süd on federal motorway 9 .
On weekdays, Bremsnitz is connected to the cities of Hermsdorf and Stadtroda with line 427 operated by the Andreas Schröder transport company . The nearest train stations are Neustadt (Orla) (about 10 kilometers away on the Leipzig – Gera – Saalfeld – Probstzella route ) and Stadtroda (about 13 kilometers away on the Weimar – Jena – Gera route ).

Bremsnitz was first mentioned on September 7, 1358. From 1952 onwards, the farmers of the predominantly agricultural town had to take the path of collectivizing their farms.
