Waldeck is a village in the woodland around Hermsdorf. It is located on an area surrounded by forest with Albersdorf and Bobeck . The county road 108 connects the village with the state road 1075 to the east nearby federal highway 9 . Adjacent communities are the city of Bürgel in the west and north, Serba and the city of Schkölen in the northeast, Bad Klosterlausnitz in the east and Bobeck and Albersdorf in the south.

history

The place was first mentioned on August 15, 1145. The place belonged to the possession of the monastery Bürgel and came after its dissolution in the course of the Reformation in the year 1526 to the Ernestine office Bürgel . Due to several divisions, this belonged to different Ernestine duchies . From 1815 the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , which in 1850 incorporated it into the Weimar II administrative district ( Apolda administrative district ). In 1920 Waldeck came to the state of Thuringia.

The place is still a popular excursion destination today, shaped by the landscape of the "Waldecker Buchen " and the nature reserve "Waldecker Schloßgrund". There was a castle on the old ramparts "Old Castle" in the district .

The highest point in the area is the "Harth", a mountain with a height of around 376.5 m above sea level, which borders directly to the south. NHN. This also forms the highest point of the altitude on which Waldeck and the two neighboring towns are located. From here, the terrain slopes down in all directions: In the north, the Waldecker Schlossgrund with its “deeply indented, steep-walled valleys” and streams, as well as the Lange Tal, through which a stream also flows. In the south, the altitude is limited by the Zeitzgrund with the Zeitzbach flowing through it. In the east, the area slopes down to Hermsdorf / Bad Klosterlausnitz, in the west in the direction of Scheiditz, where the tracks from Albersdorf / Ascherhütte run through the valley.

The Thuringian State Institute for Environment and Geology (TLUG) assigns the area to the red sandstone hill country and in turn to the Saale sandstone slab.

According to the geological map, the plateau consists of rocks from the upper Buntsandstein: in the northern part of the village from chirotheria sandstone , in the southern part of the village from lower red marl. In the valleys there are building sandstones of the middle red sandstone . In the east of the village, near the cemetery, there is a disused quarry.

There is a tertiary quartzite deposit in most of the plateau north of Waldeck and in the fields to the east . In the north of the village, in the area of ​​the Hausberg north of the Arbeitsdienstweg, the rock was mined earlier. Today the area is protected as a natural monument. The quartzite produced by the silicification of deposited sands has a very high hardness and was therefore processed into paving stones, among other things. The gemstones that can be found in many front gardens, on the other hand, probably come from the surrounding fields, where they are plowed out and removed every year.
