Zimmer is a municipality in the north of the Saale-Holzland district and part of the Dornburg-Camburg administrative community .

Geographical location

Zimmer is on the plateau of the Ilm-Saale-Platte . The country road 2303 runs through the village from Utenbach to Dornburg and the L 2301 ends when coming from Stiebritz and the Gönnatal. The city of Jena is approx. 13 km away and Weimar is 25 km away. The nearest federal road is the B 88 3 km east in the Saale valley and the next motorway is the A 4 18 km south.

In a clockwise direction, neighboring communities are the town and rural community Bad Sulza ( district Weimarer Land ) with its districts Kösnitz and Wormstedt in the north, the town Dornburg-Camburg with its districts Wilsdorf and Dornburg in the east, Neuengönna in the south and Hainichen in the west (all Saale-Holzland Circle ).

The Zimmer Flur is characterized on the one hand by the fertile arable land of the Ilm-Saale-Platte, on the other hand by the mostly wooded slopes of the Middle Saale Valley and its side valleys, which slope towards the southeast . The Erdengraben belonging to the Middle Saale Valley landscape protection area is a deep valley that extends from the location over a length of about 3 kilometers to its opening into the Saale valley near Neuengönna. The highest elevation of the town hall is around 320 m above sea level. NN near the Hainicher forest .

history

Church in rooms

Due to the favorable soil and water conditions, the plateau between the Saale and Ilm has been populated almost continuously since the Neolithic. Numerous individual finds within and to the east of the locality ofzimmer testify to a settlement since the linear ceramic band (5500-4900 BC). In 1878, a group of five burial mounds was examined in the “Auf demgericht” area and assigned to the Aunjetitz culture and the Sögel-Wohlde district (2300–1000 BC).

The current village of Zimmer emerged as a clearing settlement in the High Middle Ages and was first mentioned in a document on September 6, 1281. The ties to the rulership and later to the Dornburg office were always very close due to a Freihof . The oldest tradition from court owners comes from the period 1421–1425. Until its dissolution in 1819, the manorial Vorwerk , to which about 35 hectares of usable area belonged, stood on the north-western edge of the village. Up until the beginning of the 19th century, viticulture was practiced on around 30 hectares of vineyards within the corridor.

In church terms , rooms belonged to the Johanniter Ordenshof in Utenbach until the Reformation . Then it was a branch of the parish Nerkewitz and in the meantime from 1821 to 1977 the parish of Hainichen.

On May 4, 1759, a major fire raged in the village, in which two residents were killed and almost all houses and the church were destroyed.

Zimmer was on the so-called Heerweg , also called Altstrasse , an old trade route from Erfurt to Altenburg . The path left the plateau here and continued towards Neuengönna in the Saale valley.

In the southeast of the district lies the Lanserode field (in older sources also the long rod ), which was made arable for agriculture in the 12th to 13th centuries. Whether there was an inhabited settlement of the same name for a time, i.e. today's desertification, has not yet been clearly clarified.

Zimmer was occupied by US troops in April 1945 and handed over to the Red Army in early July . This made the place part of the Soviet Zone and, from 1949, of the GDR . On the war memorial in the churchyard there is a plaque with two names and the note "Deported after the end of the war (and died in 1945)".

40% of the population are Protestant. The parish Zimmer belongs to the Altengönna parish in the Jena parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . Catholics were not found in the 2011 census.

politics

In 2007 the local council of Zimmer decided to dissolve the community and at the same time integrate it into the now former community of Saaleplatte in the Weimarer Land district . The background for this step was the preservation of the rural structure in connection with several villages of approximately the same size. With the local elections on June 7, 2009, a poll was held to confirm the change of municipality and district. With a turnout of 89.7%, 84% of them voted for affiliation with the municipality of Saaleplatte. This step could not be legally implemented due to the fixed district boundaries.

In 2011, the citizens of Zimmer made two important decisions. The communal forest areas of the community have been made available to the fire brigade association for use. In addition, on November 25, 2011, the association Zimmersche Linde e. V. (i. G.) founded. The Heimatverein should primarily take care of the interests and maintenance of the cultural center. With this, the municipality promises to secure municipal property in the long term. All other local associations such as the fire brigade association, the Bürgererschützengilde zu Zimmer , the radio team Zimmer , the youth club, the hunting association, the political community and the parish each send a representative to this new homeland association.

Culture

In 2011 Zimmer celebrated its 730th anniversary of being first mentioned. The events for this were carried out by various institutions and associations throughout the year. In addition to the community itself, the fire brigade association was particularly active.
