Utenbach is a district of the city of Apolda (since 1994) in the northeast of the Weimarer Land district .

geography

Utenbach is located west of the core city of Apolda. State road 1059 runs through the village. The village is surrounded by fields and meadows. To the southwest is Kösnitz , whose district borders on the Saale-Holzland district .

history

Utenbach ( Otunpach ) was first mentioned in 957 in a document by King Otto I. The name is likely to go back to the Germanic god Odin or Wotan.

At the beginning of the 13th century Utenbach became the seat ( Sedes ) of a deanery of the archdeaconate “St. Marien “ in Erfurt. At the same time, the Canons of the Holy Sepulcher acquired the parish churches in Utenbach and Nerkewitz as well as the pastoral rights in Kösnitz, Zimmer, Stiebritz, Rödigen and Closewitz, among others, from the Apolda taverns . In Utenbach a house of the order was established, which was administered by the order's provost in Droyzut . Around 1489 the monastic goods were handed over to the Order of St. John , after the Reformation they were partly owned by the state and partly by the parish of Utenbach. The oldest tradition from court owners comes from the period 1421–1425. The Zeptritz , Hermnitz and Krahndorf deserts are located within the Utenbacher Flur . All three settlements appear to be in the 14th and 15th centuries. Century. The family name Zeptritz , Zepperitz or similar occurs to this day in the wider area.

The place belonged to the Ernestine office of Dornburg , which was founded in the 14th century and which, due to several divisions, belonged to various Ernestine duchies . From 1815 the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , which in 1850 incorporated it into the Weimar II administrative district ( Apolda administrative district ).

In mid-April 1945 the site was occupied by US troops and, like all of Thuringia, handed over to the Red Army at the beginning of July . This made it part of the Soviet Zone and, from 1949, of the GDR.

In 1953 there was the last flood in the village.

During the restoration in the 1980s, Horst Jahresling was the consultant. At the end of the GDR era, the church was supposed to be demolished due to its dilapidation. In 1993, on June 6th, after a construction period of three years, the sanctification of the Saint Hilary Church took place. It is one of the oldest village churches in the district. On April 9, 1994, the village of Utenbach was incorporated into the city of Apolda.
