history
The village was first mentioned in a document in 1242. In the district one goes from 1297. The place belonged since the middle of the 15th century to the Ernestine Office Roßla , which in 1572 to Saxe-Weimar , 1603 to Saxe-Altenburg , 1672 again to Saxe-Weimar and 1741 to Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach . During the administrative reform of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, the place came to the administrative district Weimar II ( administrative district Apolda ) in 1850 .
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe owned an estate in Oberroßla from 1798 to 1803, which was later destroyed by fire. In 1858 the inn "Zum Schlosshof" was built on the foundation walls of the manor house. The cellar vaults (vegetable cellar and milk vault) are still preserved today.
On March 14, 1974 Rödigsdorf was incorporated into Oberroßla. On February 4, 1994, this community was incorporated into Apolda. The village was dominated by agriculture and is increasingly becoming a town with a rural character.
