Adolph Doebber

Adolph Doebber (born August 20, 1848 in Magdeburg ; † April 22, 1920 in Weimar ) was a German architect , construction clerk and architectural historian .

Life

After graduating from the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Berlin in 1868, he attended the Berlin Building Academy . In 1876 he passed the master builder examination, then worked on the construction of the cadet institute in Lichterfelde and was then employed by the army administration in Spandau .

In 1892 he became director and building officer at the directorate of the 3rd Army Corps . In 1898 he retired so that he could devote himself entirely to his architectural history studies; In 1918 he settled in Weimar.

He dealt with the research of the Berlin architecture of classicism and especially its relations to Weimar and Goethe , so he published about the architect Heinrich Gentz , who built the theater in Lauchstädt and the castle in Weimar .
