Johann Gottlieb Preller

Johann Gottlieb Preller (born March 9, 1727 in Oberroßla near Apolda , † March 21, 1786 in Dortmund ), also written Breller , was a German cantor , composer and surveyor .

Life

Nothing is known about Preller's musical training. It is possible that he was a student of Johann Nicolaus Mempel in Apolda , which is indicated by the joint authorship of the Mempell-Preller manuscript . Preller studied at the University of Jena from 1750 . In 1753 or 1754 he was appointed cantor of the Marienkirche in Dortmund and founded a Collegium Musicum there .

Preller was a great-grandfather of the romantic composer Daniel Friedrich Eduard Wilsing .

In 1958 Prellerstraße in Dortmund was named after him.

Works

The only traditional composition of his is a Laudate Dominum .
