Mempell-Preller handwriting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mempell-Preller manuscript is a sheet music manuscript that is an important source for the organ and keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach . The name goes back to the two authors of the manuscript, Johann Nicolaus Mempel and Johann Gottlieb Preller .

history

The manuscript was passed on within the Preller family to Johann Gottlieb's great-grandson Daniel Friedrich Eduard Wilsing . However, he had to sell her, whereupon she could only be saved from destruction by accident. Karl Straube discovered the manuscript, and Max Seiffert was the first publisher of Bach's works to use it. After it had belonged to the Peters Music Library since 1904 , it came into the holdings of the Leipzig City Library with it and is now a deposit in the Leipzig Bach Archive .
