Geographical location
The health resort Bad Klosterlausnitz, located next to the city of Hermsdorf , is the center of the Thuringian woodland . As the name suggests, there are large areas of forest with useful trees. Due to the abundance of wood, there was an important wood processing industry here, especially ladders were manufactured in large numbers and widely distributed. Until the end of the 1990s, the production site was able to establish itself despite the ladders made of iron and profile steel that were already available, but subsequently lost its importance with the widespread sale of aluminum ladders.
Bad Klosterlausnitz lies on a plateau between the valleys of the Saale in the west and the White Elster in the east. Due to the plateau, there are widespread bog areas in the surrounding forests , the soil of which has been used for healing purposes since 1929 and is still used in the local clinics today.

history
The "875 years Bad Klosterlausnitz" anniversary commemorates the first mention of the Lausnitz women's monastery . In 1137 the monastery, which had existed since 1132 and whose members lived according to the rules of the Augustinian order , was first mentioned in a confirmation letter from Pope Innocent II . From 1526 the village of Lausnitz is known next to the monastery. Since 1661 the place bears the name of the monastery - Klosterlausnitz - which was abolished in 1526. The development of the craft was promoted from Lausnitz Monastery; because the glassworks belonging to the monastery in the Tautenhainer Forst in the Weißenborner district was founded in 1137 and employed serfs and servants who produced table glass. The Klosterlausnitzer Glashütte is the oldest of its kind in East Thuringia. The settlement of Gumprechtsdorf was proven around 1200 in the southern district of Lausnitz .
From 1719 to 1722 a hunting lodge for Duke Friedrich II (Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg) was built on the site of the former monastery , because there was a lot of game in the large forest area, as well as several game enclosures and gates. Old buildings were demolished and the material used for the new construction. In 1849 a school was set up in the left wing of the hunting lodge, and in 1860 parts of this wing were demolished for the planned new building of a church. The construction of the church, which is still standing today, lasted around 1866. In 1871 a forestry office was set up in the hunting lodge. In 1888/89 the hunting lodge was demolished.
The place belonged to the Wettin district office of Eisenberg , which was under the sovereignty of various Ernestine duchies due to several divisions in the course of its existence . In 1826 the place came with the southern part of the Eisenberg district office and the city of Eisenberg from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . From 1920 he belonged to the Free State of Thuringia .
After the Weimar – Gera railway was inaugurated in 1876 , tourism was able to develop in Klosterlausnitz. The place was a climatic health resort and a popular summer retreat. In connection with the use of the moor earth for medicinal purposes since 1929, the state government awarded the place on September 19, 1932 the title " Bath ".
During the GDR era, VEB BKK Geiseltal built and maintained the children's holiday camp " Peter Göring " for the children of its employees.
