Hans-Joachim Herbst

Hans-Joachim Herbst (born October 7, 1918 in Klosterlausnitz ; † January 13, 1995 ) was a German politician of the FDP .

Life and work

After graduating from high school , Herbst completed an apprenticeship as an industrial and export salesman. He then became sales manager at a porcelain factory in Thuringia .

In 1949 he fled to Schleswig-Holstein for political reasons . There he was initially managing director of a trade association and from 1956 a personally liable partner in several companies. At the suggestion of the Schleswig-Holstein state government, Herbst was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class on November 30, 1968 .

Political party

Herbst joined the LDPD in Thuringia after the Second World War and was there from 1946 to 1949 executive chairman of the Jena District Association and the Eastern Thuringia District Association. After fleeing to the West, he became a member of the FDP . From 1950 to 1956 he was state chairman of the Young Democrats in Schleswig-Holstein and later district chairman of the FDP in Kiel .

From July 2, 1957, when he replaced Johannes Hagge , until the end of the 1958 legislative period, and again from October 27, 1958, when he replaced Justice Minister Bernhard Leverenz , until 1971, he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament . from 1958 to 1967 he was chairman of the economic committee of the state parliament and then until 1971 its deputy chairman. In 1966/67 he was also deputy chairman of the Committee on Labor and Development and in 1969 of the Special Committee on Territorial Reform. From 1967 to 1971 he was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group.

Herbst was sent by the state parliament to the 4th Federal Assembly , which on July 1, 1964 re-elected Heinrich Lübke as Federal President.

Public offices

From March 11, 1963 to April 28, 1967, Herbst was the parliamentary representative of the Schleswig-Holstein Minister for Labor, Social Affairs and Displaced Persons.
