Rainer Crummenerl (* 1942 in Falkenberg / Elster ) is a German science journalist and author who primarily writes books for children.

Life

After graduating from high school, Rainer Crummenerl first studied economics for a few semesters before training as a journalist. While working as an editor for various newspapers, he published numerous stories, especially for children. In 1975 Rainer Crummenerl moved to the external trade department of a large Leipzig combine, where he was responsible for public relations. It was during this time that his first non-fiction books for children were written.

From 1981 on, Rainer Crummenerl worked as a freelance journalist and author. For four years, from 1981 to 1985, he was a member of the editorial team of the cultural almanac Leipziger Blätter - initially as editor-in-chief, later as deputy editor-in-chief.

At the end of 1985, Rainer Crummenerl went on a four-month trip on a fishing ship to Africa, the Antarctic and South America. Rainer Crummenerl processed the impressions of this and previous trips with ships of the GDR deep-sea fishing in numerous reports, but also in books.

Rainer Crummenerl has published over 70 books. Some of his titles have also appeared as audio books, and many more have been translated into other languages.

In addition to his preference for writing for children and young people, Rainer Crummenerl was involved in the development and publication of bibliophile books until the late 1980s. Without exception, these works were created on behalf of large companies and in collaboration with well-known artists such as Klaus Ensikat, Rainer Schade or Roland Beier.

Rainer Crummenerl is married. He has two children and lives near Leipzig.
