The rainbow series was a GDR children's book series from the children's book publisher Berlin .

From 1972 to approx. 1981 this series published scientifically oriented paperbacks for children from 10 or 12 years with color illustrations on approx. 140 to 160 pages. Additional editions followed until the end of the 1980s (later no more as a rainbow series), all volumes cost 3.00 marks (GDR) .

The cover is white with a cover picture below a seven-colored horizontal and straight rainbow of the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet (from top to bottom), above it are the author and the book title on the top left, and on the right initially three lines "REGEN | BOGEN | REIHE ", later a black and white logo made up of the letters RBR (similar to the earlier logo of the Bayer. Rundfunk).
