particularities | Remainder of the open-cast hard stone works Werdenfels |
The Lange Köchel is a now 710 m high wooded rocky knoll in the Bavarian Prealps within the Murnauer Moos nature reserve in Bavaria . Together with Steinköchel , Wiesmahdköchel and Schmatzerlköchel , the Köchel rise like islands out of the Murnauer Moos. The current elevation of Langer Köchel represents the westward remainder of the original hilltop, while the eastward part was removed as part of the opencast mining measures of the Werdenfels hard stone works . Therefore, the east side consists of a steep slope that ends in Langer-Köchel-See . The original height before the start of the open pit is unknown.
