Location of the community of Gneus in the Saale-Holzland district | ||
Gneus is a municipality in the south of the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia and one of 22 municipalities in the Hügelland / Täler administrative community .
geography
The community consists of the districts Obergneus and Untergneus .
The independent city of Jena is located east of the municipality of Gneus.
history
In a so-called loan letter from Landgrave Wilhelm, the municipality of Gneus was mentioned for the first time in 1411. The first school was built in Gneus as early as 1570 next to the church. However, the latter burned down completely in 1677, so that the students had to go to the central school of Tröbnitz .
On March 1, 1951, the previously independent communities of Obergneus and Untergneus were merged to form the new community of Gneus.
Transport links
Gneus has been accessible from Geisenhain on the new K115 municipal road since 2001. The community, bordered by forest and meadows, is surrounded by a valley (Untergneus) and a plateau (Obergneus).
Attractions
The village linden is typical of the Upper and Lower Gneus. The village linden of Obergneus is classified as worthy of protection by the monument protection office. In 1990, on the occasion of the reunification, a so-called “standard oak” was planted in Untergneus instead of the original linden tree. As the oak was not thriving, it was replaced by a traditional linden in 1994.
societies
The Obergneus district is home to the SVT Obergneus volleyball club. The oldest organ in the area of the former district of Stadtroda is located in the village church of the Untergneus district . It was built in 1737 by Justinus Ehrenfried Gerhard and has been preserved to this day thanks to the commitment of the “Association for the Preservation and Rescue of Church Art and Culture in the Stadtroda Area”.
