Weißbach is a municipality in the Saale-Holzland district and part of the Hügelland / Täler administrative community in Thuringia.
geography
The place is located in the southeastern Saale-Holzland district and almost borders the Saale-Orla district . The district is in the Saale-Elster sandstone slab and is surrounded by meadows, fields and forests. The village is located in the valley of the Weißbach and on its slopes.
history
It was first mentioned in documents around 1400. The place was and is characterized by agriculture and forestry. From 1952 the farmers in Weißbach, which belonged to the Soviet-occupied zone from 1945 and to the GDR from 1949, had to take the path of collectivization of their farms. After the fall of the Wall they found new forms of collaboration.

traffic
The small community is away from the main streams of traffic. The federal highway 281 runs about 10 kilometers south of Weißbach. The closest motorway junction is Hermsdorf -Süd on Autobahn 9 . Weißbach is connected to the cities of Hermsdorf and Stadtroda with the line 427 of the transport company Andreas Schröder . The nearest train stations are Neustadt (Orla) (about 10 kilometers away on the Saalfeld – Gera line ) and Stadtroda (about 13 kilometers away on the Holzlandbahn Erfurt – Weimar – Jena – Gera).
