The administrative community was formed with the Thuringian Ordinance on the formation of the administrative community "Dornburg-Camburg" from January 13, 2005 to February 1 of the same year. The administrative community of Dornburg , which had existed until then, as well as the area of the places supervised by the city of Camburg as a fulfilling municipality, was incorporated into it. The city of Dornburg / Saale and the municipality of Dorndorf-Steudnitz were incorporated into the city of Camburg on December 1, 2008, which was then renamed Dornburg-Camburg.
