Nerkewitz is a part of the municipality of Lehesten near Jena in Thuringia .

landscape

The area belonging to Nerkewitz consists in the west of mostly fertile arable land that extends up to the heights of the Ilm-Saale-Platte . Some flat valleys and depressions run like a funnel towards the Gönna valley. In the eastern part of the district , in the Nerkewitzer Grund , there are meadows and forest areas. On the Gönnabach stream below the village are the former upper and lower mills . Above the village, the Gönnabach is dammed into a lake, the Nerkewitz reservoir . The highest point is about 310 m above sea level. NN.

history

Church in Nerkewitz

Nerkewitz is Ersterwähnt in a document of the year 1044, after King Henry the Hersfeld Abbey to salvation of his parents 10 hooves in villa Niuedecauiz et in pago Ginnaha via suitable.

Nerkewitz was initially an imperial estate and from the middle of the 12th century belonged to the Lords of Lobdeburg or their branch of the Lords of Burgau . In the middle of the 14th century, the Wettins took over their property. Nerkewitz was loaned to the von Thüna family and in 1490 to the von Watzdorf family . In 1532 Volrad von Watzdorf sold the village to the Teutonic Order . Until 1809 Nerkewitz belonged to the order commander Zwatzen and thus to the Albertine Saxony. In 1815 it changed to the Ernestine Duchy of Saxony-Weimar .

In 1626, 197 residents died of the plague .

The Schemnitz desert lies between Nerkewitz and Lehesten . The settlement was completely abandoned in 1337. The corridor was closed until the land consolidation in 1872.

A female, plastic clay idol was found in the wooded area between Nerkewitz and Rödigen , which played a role of the mother goddess in the linear ceramic culture .

The Nerkewitz reservoir offers many leisure and recreational opportunities such as fishing, camping and in winter ice skating.

St. George Church

The church of Nerkewitz has a fortified tower with valuable wall paintings from the late 15th century. The parish of Nerkewitz includes the branches Rödigen, Neuengönna with Porstendorf (since 1539), rooms (1539-1821, since 1977), Stiebritz (until 1529, since 1977) and Hainichen (since 1977). Patronage over the parish has been exercised by the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem since the 13th century and by the Order of St. John over his commander in Utenbach since 1489 . From 1562 to 1809 the patronage belonged to the Teutonic Order.

A memorial stone in the center of the village commemorates German reunification with the following text on the metal plaque: “Unity and law and freedom. October 3, 1990 "
