The administrative community Schkölen was in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . The city of Schkölen and eight communities belonged to it. The seat was in Schkölen.

The administrative community was founded on April 4, 1991. The dissolution took place on December 31, 1996. With effect from January 1, 1997, the new city of Schkölen was formed from the member communities. The communities Mertendorf and Thierschneck, however, remained independent. For the former, Eisenberg became a fulfilling community; The latter was incorporated into the administrative community of Camburg .
