The administrative community was founded on June 5, 1991. It was dissolved on March 14, 1996. With effect from March 15, 1996, the communities Heideland and Walpernhain were incorporated into the Elstertal administrative community , which then changed its name to the Heideland-Elstertal administrative community . Gosen became an independent community.
