For administrative community Gleistal-Gemdental northeast of goods 1991-1994 five Jena small communities together. It was part of the district of Jena and from July 1994 of the Saale-Holzland district . It got its name from the valleys of the tracks and the Gemdenbach .

The administrative community was founded on September 30, 1991. The dissolution took place on December 29, 1994. With effect from December 30, 1994, the member communities with the communities Dorndorf-Steudnitz , Hainichen and Lehesten and the city of Dornburg / Saale were merged to form the new administrative community Dornburg .
