history

Village community center "Church" in Schleuskau (2012)

The village was first mentioned in a document on November 5, 1198. The place belonged to the Wettin office of Camburg , which was under the sovereignty of various Wettin duchies due to several divisions in the course of its existence . For the first time, residents are mentioned by name around 1420. In 1826 Schleuskau came as part of the Camburg exclave from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . From 1922 to 1939 the place belonged to the Camburg district department .

church

The church in Schleuskau was originally a Romanesque church with an almost square floor plan. It is first mentioned in 1219. Already at that time it was probably a parish church. Around 1500 a choir with a polygonal finish was added in the same width. Schleuskau was Catholic until the first visit in 1539 and belonged to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg . Subsequently, a Protestant pastor was introduced for the first time. During the 17th century, several alterations were made, including the installation of large rectangular windows. In 1811 a three-sided gallery, organ and pulpit altar were added to the interior. In the GDR , the church fell into disrepair and was no longer used from 1968.

After the fall of the Wall , the roof structure with ridge turrets was renovated in the 1990s, and later the interior work was also carried out by the municipality. Today the church houses the village community center "Schleuskauer Kirchlein" and is used jointly by the church and civil parish.
