Helmut Faulwetter
Helmut Faulwetter (born April 17, 1929 in Renthendorf ; † October 22, 1989 ) was a German economist and diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Ceylon and the Maldives .
Live and act
Faulwetter, son of a worker, attended elementary school and learned the trade of bricklayer . After 1945 he qualified as a vocational school teacher, a teacher for social sciences and a lecturer in vocational school teacher training in Gotha . In 1953 Faulwetter took up a position as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Political Economy at the Berlin School of Economics (HfÖ). In 1957, he passed his state examination as a teacher for political economy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . 1960 doctorate he attended the HFOE on the wage policy of the West German SPD to Dr. rer. oec.
From 1961 Faulwetter worked as an economic advisor to the GDR trade agency in Cairo and from 1963 as head of the branch of the GDR trade agency (with the rank of trade councilor) in Madras, India, involved in developing economic relations between the GDR and developing countries .
These activities gave him the impetus to deal scientifically with the problems of the developing countries. In 1964 he made himself available to the newly founded Institute for Economics in Developing Countries at the HfÖ. Faulwetter contributed to the establishment and consolidation of the reputation of this institute, which he had taken on for two terms of office. There he defended his habilitation thesis on foreign trade and the reproductive process in India in 1967 and was appointed full professor in 1970.
1970 Faulwetter was appointed extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the GDR in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and the Republic of the Maldives. In 1974 he returned to the Institute for Economics in Developing Countries.
Faulwetter's work deals, among other things, with the exploitation of developing countries, with their struggle for a new international economic order and with the brain drain .
Faulwetter was the spokesman for the socialist states at the United Nations World Conference of the Least Developed Countries in Paris in 1981 and a member of government delegations and expert groups in UNCTAD , ECE and UNESCO . He was also active in GDR bodies such as the Central Council for Asian, African and Latin American Studies , the League of the United Nations of the GDR and the URANIA Presidium.
Faulwetter died of heart failure on October 22, 1989 while preparing for an operation.
He had been a member of the SED since 1948 .
