The Pößneck district in the Gera district

The Pößneck district was a district in the Gera district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the Pößneck district in Thuringia . Today, its area is largely in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Pößneck .

geography

location

The Pößneck district lay in eastern Thuringia on both sides of the Orla . To the north were the two urban-industrial focal points of the district: the university town of Jena with its important optical and glass industry and the district town of Gera with the textile industry. In addition to the Stadtroda district , Pößneck was the only inner circle in the district .

Neighboring areas

The Pößneck district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the Jena-Land , Stadtroda , Gera-Land , Zeulenroda , Schleiz , Lobenstein , Saalfeld and Rudolstadt districts .

Natural space

The district area comprised the transition area between the Thuringian Forest in the south and the Jena Heath in the north. The landscape mainly consisted of the Orlasenke - from Saalfeld via Pößneck / Neustadt to Triptis - and two parallel mountainous shoulder strips. On the southern edge there were old coral reefs with the Döbritz caves . The Plothen pond area was an attractive local recreational destination.

history

The law on the further democratization of the structure and functioning of the state organs in the states in the German Democratic Republic of July 23, 1952 resulted in an extensive district reform in the five remaining states of the GDR . On July 25, 1952, the federal states were dissolved and 14 districts were established. Here traditional circles were dissolved or divided into smaller circles, whereby there were also changes of area beyond the borders of the former 5 countries. The Pößneck district was formed from the three districts of Gera , Saalfeld and Schleiz . The historic Neustädter Kreis was largely re-established as the Pößneck district, but the seat was moved to the affiliated Pößneck and renamed accordingly. The district was assigned to the newly formed Gera district .

The following 62 municipalities formed the new Pößneck district :

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Pößneck district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the Pößneck district was assigned to the re-established state of Thuringia by the Land Introduction Act in October 1990 . During the district reform in Thuringia on July 1, 1994, it was largely absorbed into the new Saale-Orla district, only the Lausnitz community fell to the Schwarza district (from September 28, 1994: Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district ).

traffic

The district area was developed evenly from the central traffic axis in the Orlasenke. The Gera-Saalfeld railway, built in 1871, was supplemented in 1889 by a cross-connection between Pößneck and Orlamünde . The Triptis – Blankenstein line crossed the south of the district for about 9 km. At Triptis the F 281 reaches (from Sonneberg via Pößneck to Triptis), in the east the motorway Berliner Ring – Hermsdorfer Kreuz – Hirschberg ran through the district.
