Lichtenau is a district of the city of Neustadt an der Orla in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

Lichtenau is located northwest of Neustadt an der Orla on the winding and uphill road 1110 in the direction of Kahla . This road also connects the neighboring towns with the federal highway 281 to the federal highway 9 with connection at Triptis . The village lies on a plateau of the Saale-Elster sandstone slab and is surrounded by meadows and fields and then by forest. It is located on a higher level in a green island. It is surrounded by forest and meadows and pastures and fields north of the Orlatal . Neighboring towns to the north are Breitenhain , Strößwitz , Stanau and to the south the town of Neustadt an der Orla.

With the line 981 of the transport company KomBus , Lichtenau has a connection to the core city Neustadt an der Orla and from there to the cities Schleiz (line 820), Stadtroda (line 820), Jena (line 820) and Triptis (lines 831 and 832).

history

The area around Lichtenau was developed by the Sorbs . The first documentary mention took place in 1364. Wolfgang Kahl is the first documentary mention in 1423. The church was built in 1730 on the foundations of a previous building.

There is a children's and youth home in the village. On April 9, 1994 it was incorporated into Neustadt an der Orla. In 2011, 200 people live in the village.
