history

The hamlet was first mentioned in a document in 1071.

The village, which is located on the smaller “Vordere Heide” ridge, is about 350  m above sea level. NN . Around 1700 45 people lived in 15 houses. In Breitenhain there were 22 houses and 100 inhabitants. It was about four-sided courtyards in the Franconian style in half-timbered construction. The residents of both hamlets had created 40 fish ponds. Agriculture and forestry played and still play a role today. A church was built in the late Middle Ages, later the current church. It has an important peal of bells and a valuable altar. The children once went to school in Breitenhain, then in Tröbnitz, and later in Neunhofen. Today the residents offer tourists and hikers board and lodging in addition to their actual work.

The village church of St. Stephen and St. Nicholas was built in 1706.

From July 1, 1950, Strößwitz was part of the municipality of Breitenhain , which was incorporated into Neustadt an der Orla on December 1, 2010 . The new Neustadt district of Breitenhain-Strößwitz emerged from both locations .
