Molbitz is a district of the city of Neustadt an der Orla in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

Molbitz is located on the former northeastern outskirts of Neustadt an der Orla at the foot of the Saale-Orla sandstone slab. The rivers flowing down from the mountains to the valley are dammed by ponds in order to operate the fishing industry. The soils in the Orlasenke are all washed up and close to the groundwater. The arable, weathered soils on the slopes are predominantly remote from the groundwater. The state road 2318 runs through Molbitz. The district is now connected to the inner-city traffic and has connections in all possible directions.

With the lines 830, 831 and 832 of the KomBus transport company , Molbitz has connections to the core city of Neustadt an der Orla and to the city of Triptis .

history

The first documentary mention of the village was registered in 1350. On January 1, 1976, Molbitz and the district of Döhlen became part of the city of Neustadt an der Orla.

Carousel horses

The Karl Müller company in Molbitz has been building carousel horses since 1884, which are now (2011) sought-after collector's items. The company existed until the early 1920s.
