The Schokoladenwerk Berggold GmbH is a company that has been manufacturing pralines and other sweets since 1876 . The company's headquarters are in Pößneck , the largest city in the Saale-Orla district in eastern Thuringia . The main buyer of the products is the German food and confectionery trade. They are also exported to over 30 countries.

history

In 1876 the Robert Berger company was founded as a chocolate and cocoa factory. After being appointed purveyor to the court of the ducal house of Saxony-Meiningen in 1888, Erwin Rebling took over management of the company in 1923 and structural and technological extensions were made. In 1947 expropriation and the transfer to public property followed . In a transitional period after the war, only bread, sugar confectionery, artificial honey and jams could be made. But in 1949 the first chocolate bars could be produced in Germany after the war. In 1955 the name was changed to Berggold.

After the transformation into a GmbH in 1990, with the Treuhandanstalt as a partner, it was privatized in 1991 by Heinerle Spiel- und Süßwaren GmbH Bamberg. In 1996 the company relocated its production facilities to Pößneck. In 2005, 5.4 million euros were invested in the areas of warehouse / logistics, production and sales. An ultra-modern warehouse was built and production capacities were expanded. Today around 120 of the former 600 to 900 employees are still employed.

In 2003 the company underwent a quality audit and in November 2009 received IFS certification at a higher level for the sixth time . It is also BRC certified

Products are exported to over 30 countries, including South Africa, Canada, Greece, Eastern Europe, New Zealand, England, the USA, Scandinavia and Australia. The export share amounts to approx. 19% of the total turnover.
