history
In 1816, the part of the Principality of Erfurt that remained with Prussia without Sömmerda and Großvargula was set up in the new district of Erfurt in the administrative district of Erfurt in the Prussian province of Saxony, to which the town of Ringleben , which had been ceded by the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , was added. The city of Erfurt initially formed its own urban district. The district office was in Erfurt. In 1818 the urban district of Erfurt was dissolved again and the city of Erfurt joined the district of Erfurt, which again took on the name district .
In 1872 Erfurt left the district for good and from then on again formed its own urban district. The district office remained in Erfurt. The community of Ilversgehofen left the district on April 1, 1911 and was incorporated into the city of Erfurt.
During the Prussian territorial reform of October 1, 1932, the Erfurt district was dissolved and incorporated into the neighboring Weissensee district. In 1950, parts of the districts of Gotha , Langensalza , Weimar , Weißensee and Arnstadt were once again set up to form a district of Erfurt, before a comprehensive regional reform was carried out in the entire GDR in 1952 , including the district of Erfurt-Land .
