Location of Waltersleben in Erfurt

Waltersleben is a district in the outer south of the Thuringian state capital Erfurt .

geography

Waltersleben lies in the valley of the Wiesenbach , which flows west to the Gera near Möbisburg . To the north between Waltersleben and Erfurt lies the 350-meter-high Steigerwald , south of the Rockhäuser Berg , which is about the same height . The village itself is 300 meters above sea level. Neighboring villages are Möbisburg in the west, Rhoda in the north, Egstedt in the east, Rockhausen in the southeast and Eischleben in the southwest.

history

Finds from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages prove an early settlement of the Waltersleben corridor. Waltersleben was first mentioned in a document in 1227. In the Middle Ages, woad cultivation played a major role. The farming village was also an Erfurt kitchen village and was therefore closely tied to the city and its electoral-Mainz rule ( Erfurt state ). So the village came from 1802 to 1806 and after the Congress of Vienna in 1815 together with Erfurt to Prussia ( district of Erfurt ). On July 1, 1994 it was incorporated into Erfurt.

Village church

The evangelical Nikolaikirche , which defines the townscape, was dilapidated during GDR times, in danger of collapsing and has not been used since 1975. The baroque tower dome was torn down in 1984 and replaced by a flat emergency roof. At the turn of the millennium, a project to preserve the church was founded, which it comprehensively restored in the following years - financed by donations and public funds. Today there is a small sacred room in the church tower, glass doors to the nave - which is now the village community center - can be opened. The local administration is located in a functional building right next to the church.

Economy and Transport

The largest commercial enterprise in Waltersleben is the Höffner furniture store on the Autobahn. There are no other large business settlements.

Waltersleben is located on federal highway 4 , which leads to federal highway 4 about one kilometer southwest of the town at the Erfurt-West junction . Other roads lead to Möbisburg, Egstedt and Rockhausen. EVAG city buses run to the bus station in the city center.

"Windpark Möbisburg": In 2006, very large wind turbines were built at the height between Waltersleben, Möbisburg and Autobahn 11 , which - in addition to the Höffner furniture store - dominate the landscape above the village.
