history

Marbach was first mentioned in a document in 1211 under the name Martbech. Until about 1300 Marbach belonged to the Count zu Gleichen , who later passed the place on to several landowners. In the Thirty Years War , Marbach was almost completely destroyed. The residents fled to Erfurt, but returned to Marbach after the end of the war and rebuilt the place.

From 1532 the place gradually became part of the city of Erfurt . Since the administrative reform of 1706 he belonged to the Alach office . In 1802 he came with the Erfurt area to Prussia and between 1807 and 1813 to the Napoleonic Principality of Erfurt . With the Congress of Vienna Marbach came back to Prussia and in 1816 was incorporated into the Erfurt district in the Prussian province of Saxony .

From 1830 the number of Marbach's population increased steadily, so that between 1854 and 1862 a road was built towards Erfurt.

On April 11, 1945, 24 civilians were killed in a US artillery attack on Marbach. 17 of them were buried in a common grave at the Marbach cemetery.

On July 1, 1950, the place was incorporated into Erfurt.

After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the population of Marbach quadrupled with the construction of many new buildings.

Culture

As one of the oldest associations in Marbach, the Marbacher Burschenverein takes on the task of preserving the cultural assets of Marbach. Organizing the annual fair to celebrate the church in Marbach is the main task of the boys' association. The Marbacher Kirmes is one of the cultural highlights of the year.

The numerous traditions that go hand in hand with the boys' association are to be understood as the greatest cultural asset of Marbach. These traditions are passed on from generation to generation by the boys' association and thus also brought closer to the young people of Marbach.

Since 2001 Marbach has had its own soccer team, Sport-Freunde Marbach , who have been promoted three times since they were founded and have now (since 2010) played in the Erfurt-Sömmerda regional league. The Paralympic athlete Maria Seifert also lives in Marbach .

Since 2010, the Marbach Tug-of-War Championships have been held every summer under the direction of Sport-Freunde Marbach.

Economy and Infrastructure

During the GDR era, many people from Marbach were employed in agriculture and worked in the local LPG . There are now numerous small and medium-sized companies, a kindergarten and also various shops and an inn in the village.

There is a fast connection to Erfurt city center via Schwarzburger Straße, which was completed in 1862. The Erfurter Verkehrsbetriebe serve Marbach with the city bus lines 90 and 95. The line 90 runs from Erfurt Domplatz via Marbach to Salomonsborn , while the line 95 commutes in the morning and in the afternoon between Marbach and the north of Erfurt (Thuringia Park shopping center).

Due to its proximity to Erfurt city center, Marbach is very popular as a place to live, so that numerous new development areas have emerged in the last ten years. Since 1990 the population has increased from just under 1000 to around 4139 today.

Between 1926 and 1967 Marbach had a railway connection on the Erfurt – Nottleben small railway .

politics

After the fall of the Wall in 1989, a local authority was formed in Marbach. In addition, there was brief discussion at the time about separating from Erfurt, but the plans were ultimately rejected again. In 2014, Katrin Böhlke (independent) was elected mayor. She is replacing Michael Siegel (CDU), who has held the office since 1994.
