Gottstedt is a district of the Thuringian capital Erfurt .

geography

Gottstedt is about seven kilometers west of Erfurt city center. The Nesse flows past the southern edge of the village , from its headwaters in Bindersleben to Ermstedt , which is why it already belongs to the catchment area of the Weser and not the Elbe , like Erfurt city center. The district is occupied by the Thuringian Basin and is flat, free of forests and used for agriculture. Neighboring villages are Alach in the north, Bindersleben in the east, Frienstedt in the south and Ermstedt in the west.

history

Gottstedt was first mentioned in a document on September 1, 1104 as Gotenstete in a document from Archbishop Ruthard of Mainz . This confirms the handover of the village church to the Erfurt Peterskloster . Other names of the place in documents and registers were Gothinstete, Godtstedt or Gottinstedte . In 1500 the council of the city of Erfurt bought the village for 600 gold guilders from the Peters monks, who were in financial difficulties and who were then headed by Abbot Günther. From then on the village belonged to Erfurt and thus to Kurmainz . 1815 was Gottstedt with the Office Alach how the city also, Prussia and part of the district of Erfurt .

During defensive battles against the advancing US troops on April 10, 1945, five German and two Lithuanian soldiers fell between the village and the Bindersleben airfield, and a memorial stone was placed on them in the churchyard.

On July 1, 1950, Gottstedt became a district of the municipality of Ermstedt , with which it rose on April 1, 1994 in the state capital of Erfurt.

St. Georg village church

The small village church in the original Romanesque style , built as a fortified church from 1170 to 1180, is the center of the village. As a subsidiary village of the church of Alach , Gottstedt was tied to the Peterskloster and not, like the neighboring towns, belonged to the landgrave. The tower was built in the late 11th or early 12th century. The small, simple cube capitals on the double-arched windows point to this time of origin. Gothic elements of the nave suggest that this was added later. The church tower roof, standing on a square floor plan, has an octagonal dome with a lantern , which is crowned by a tower button without a weather vane . The roof structure was only put on in the baroque period . The functioning tower clock is still operated mechanically by weights that have to be pulled up every day. The walls of the church are made of limestone and sandstone and are heavily weathered according to their age. A covered wooden staircase on the outer north wall of the nave leads to the mezzanine floor . Here a late Gothic window on the south side and the remarkable, also late Gothic winged altar (1490–1500) on the east wall catch the eye. The organ is one of the oldest in the Erfurt area.

Economy and Transport

Gottstedt is a place of residence with only a few businesses. There is a company for heating / plumbing, an electrical company, a car dealership, a beverage wholesale and retail trade and one for security technology. The new housing estate on the eastern edge of the town was built in the early 1990s and was mainly accepted by the citizens of Erfurt. As many people live here as in the old village. The closest commercial establishments can be found at Erfurt Airport in Bindersleben about three kilometers to the east.

Gottstedt is connected to Bindersleben and Ermstedt via Kreisstraße 14 and to Frienstedt via a country road at Bundesstraße 7. The federal motorway 71 runs east of the village with the Erfurt-Bindersleben junction.
