Molsdorf is a district in the extreme southwest of the Thuringian state capital Erfurt . Until it was incorporated into Erfurt on July 1, 1994, Molsdorf was an independent municipality.

geography

Molsdorf is located at the Erfurt an der Gera motorway junction . Nearby, a few km down the Gera , the Apfelstädt joins the Gera.

history

On panel 3 of the “ Breviarium Lulli ”, which is assigned to the period from 775 to 815, “Mollesdorf” is mentioned, where three hooves and one manse are transferred to the Hersfeld monastery . Thus the last year of the period of the Hersfeld list of goods is used as the dating year for the first mention. Accordingly, 2015 would be the 1200 year anniversary.

While 815 was the first name to be mentioned in a list of goods, the place was first mentioned in a document on September 8, 1109. In a donation to the Reinhardsbrunn monastery , Erminrich (see also next section), son of Amelungs v. Mollesdorf , given as a witness. The local council of Molsdorf has chosen this year as the basis for the anniversary celebrations. Thus, in 2009 the 900th anniversary was celebrated.

In the place of today's castle there was previously a moated castle in the upper village to the left of the church. 1114 are the lords of Molsdorf (Erminrich von Molsdorf) mentioned in a document. Later, the lords of Witzleben and von Thüna owned the moated castle (Dietrich von Witzleben, 1432; Heinrich von Witzleben, 1450; Ernst von Witzleben, 1530). In 1616 the town and castle temporarily came into the possession of those von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , at that time still Count Günther von "Schwarzburg-Arnstadt". The castle was rebuilt into a renaissance castle, which was converted into today's baroque complex in the 18th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the estate was acquired by the "privy councilor Bachov", who left it to the British and Brunswick Legation Councilor and Landdrost , Otto Christoph Schultz . In 1733, Count Gustav Adolf von Gotter bought the castle from his widow . In 1748 Gotter's successor was the Württemberg State Minister, Heinrich Reinhard Freiherr Röder von Schwende, who in turn passed it to Duke Friedrich III for around 80,000 thalers . sold. The place belonged to the Amt Wachsenburg , which in 1640 came to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha , from 1672 to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and in 1826 to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .

In the years 1891, 1946 and 1994 the place was inundated by the floods of the Gera. After the floods of 1994, a flood dam was built (completion 2005).

On July 1, 1994, Molsdorf was incorporated into the city of Erfurt.

Culture and sights

  • Molsdorf Castle is a baroque castle with a surrounding park. The castle emerged from a moated castle and was rebuilt several times. It was given its current baroque appearance under Count Gotter from 1734 to 1740. He also had the park laid out.
  • The castle church St. Trinitatis , visible from afar in the castle park and near the castle, was built from 1717 to 1721 on the site of the dilapidated church of St. Alban under Landdrost Schultz. The church has largely been preserved in its baroque shape, painting and furnishings.

According to Galletti , the place had before the Reformation in addition to the "Upper Church" (St. Alban / St. Trinitatis) another church ("Virgin Mary") in the lower village, which however "died". It was a fief of the Mainz monastery. The churchyard, which still existed in his time (1780), was laid out on the site. Today's cemetery is located at the northern entrance to the village.
