The Eisenberg district in the Gera district

The Eisenberg district was a district in the Gera district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the Eisenberg district in Thuringia . His area is now in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Eisenberg .

geography

location

The Eisenberg district was between Jena and Gera . In terms of area, Eisenberg was the second smallest district in the district.

Neighboring areas

The Eisenberg district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the Naumburg , Zeitz , Gera-Land , Stadtroda and Jena-Land districts .

Natural space

The district area was part of two large natural areas. The northern half, which almost reaches the district town, belongs to the Saxon hill country (Altenburg-Zeitzer-Loess area), the southern half to the Thuringian basin and edge slabs ( Saale-Elster sandstone slab and Ilm-Saale and Ohrdrufer slab ). At 337 m, east of Bürgel, near the border with the Stadtroda district, on the Saale-Elster sandstone slab, the highest elevation in the district was located. Only small, insignificant rivers that flowed into either the White Elster or the Saale crossed the circle. There were two nature reserves: Poxdorfer Hang near Poxdorf (10 ha) and At the billy goats near Bad Klosterlausnitz (34 ha).

history

The law on the further democratization of the structure and functioning of the state organs in the states in the German Democratic Republic of July 23, 1952 resulted in an extensive district reform in the five remaining states of the GDR . On July 25, 1952, the federal states were dissolved and 14 districts were established. Here traditional circles were dissolved or divided into smaller circles, whereby there were also changes of area beyond the borders of the former 5 countries. The Eisenberg district was formed from communities in the districts of Jena ( Thuringia ) and Zeitz ( Saxony-Anhalt ). The district was assigned to the Gera district and the town of Eisenberg became the seat of the district .

The following 49 municipalities formed the new district from July 25, 1952:

Ahlendorf, Aubitz, Buchheim, Bürgel, Döllschütz, Dothen, Droschka, Eisenberg, Etzdorf, Gösen, Graitschen ad Höhe, Graitschen over Bürgel, Hainchen, Hainspitz, Hartmannsdorf, Hetzdorf, Hohendorf, Kischlitz, Königshofen, Kursdorf, Lucka b. • With effect from December 4, 1952, the community of Beulbar-Ilmsdorf from the Stadtroda district was added.

As a result of mergers and integrations, the number of communities fell to 28 in the following years when the district was dissolved at the end of June 1994:

  • January 1, 1957 Grosshelmsdorf was spun off from Lindau
  • June 20, 1957 Kämmeritz incorporated into Hainchen

economy

Agriculture and industry were equally important in the county. In the north, Schkölen was the center of an agricultural area with an LPG specializing in animal production and a state-owned estate specializing in plant production. The fruit processing plant in Schkölen processed a large part of the agricultural products in the area. Some of the crafts and industries that were important in earlier times have also been preserved or expanded to this day. So pottery was operated in Bürgel. Porcelain, furniture and pianos were made in Eisenberg.
Important companies included:

  • VEB Spezialkombinat Porzellan Eisenberg
  • VEB Möbelkombinat Eisenberg
  • VEB Dichtungswerk Schkölen
  • VEB fruit processing Schkölen
  • VEB upholstered frame factory Bürgel

traffic

There were only two relatively short railroads in this district. A line ran from the district town of Eisenberg to the east ( Krossen – Eisenberg ), which met the line at Hartmannsdorf that u. a. Zeitz connected with Gera ( Leipzig – Krossen – Gera ). The Berlin Ring-Hirschberg (transit motorway), which ran from south to north over the Hermsdorfer Kreuz (district of Stadtroda) and Schkeuditzer Kreuz (near Leipzig ), and the F 7 that ran from west to east through Eisenberg were important national road connections.
