Thalbürgel is a district of the city of Bürgel in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .
location
Thalbürgel is about one kilometer south of the town of Bürgel and about twelve kilometers east of Jena in the valley of the tracks , while the town of Bürgel is on the opposite side of the valley on a hill. The town center is located between the tracks in the east and the ponds of the former monastery in the west. In the north, Thalbürgel merges into Gniebsdorf , while south of the village on the Zense a new residential area was built. The road from Bürgel to Stadtroda leads through Thalbürgel , while the federal road 7 runs past Thalbürgel a little north.
history
Thalbürgel emerged from the founding of the Thalbürgel monastery in 1133. In the period that followed, the village around the monastery church in the middle was built. The neighboring town of Bürgel is a planned foundation in the 13th century, thus a little younger than Thalbürgel. The monastery church still defines the townscape and is one of the most important Romanesque churches in Thuringia. There is an interest store next to the monastery church , which houses a local history museum.
After the dissolution of the monastery in the course of the Reformation , Thalbürgel became the capital of the Ernestine Burgel office in 1526 . Due to several divisions, this belonged to different Ernestine duchies . From 1815 the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , which in 1850 incorporated it into the Weimar II administrative district ( Apolda administrative district ). In 1920 the place came to the state of Thuringia.
On March 1, 1951, the previously independent community Gniebsdorf was incorporated.
