Neighboring areas
The district of Arnstadt bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the districts of Erfurt-Land , Stadtkreis Erfurt , Weimar-Land , Rudolstadt , Ilmenau , Suhl-Land and Gotha .
history
The circle was formed in the course of the administrative reform in the GDR on July 25, 1952. The northern parts of the previously existing district of Arnstadt belonged to it (the district of Ilmenau was formed from the southern parts ) as well as some other communities such as Crawinkel and Kirchheim .
The Arnstadt district was a relatively poorly wooded, agricultural district. It comprised the three cities of Arnstadt , Stadtilm and Plaue and extended from Erfurt on the northern border to Singer Berg and Oberhof on the southern border. The GDR zip code for the district was 52.
On May 17, 1990 the district was renamed the Arnstadt district. Until October 2, 1990, the district was part of the Erfurt district , after which it was part of the newly formed state of Thuringia . The vehicle registration number for the district issued in 1991 was ARN . On July 1, 1994, the Arnstadt district and the Ilmenau district in the south were combined to form the new Ilm district . Crawinkel was assigned to the district of Gotha as the only municipality that had belonged to the Arnstadt district up to that point . Arnstadt remained the county seat.
License Plate
Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinguishing signs starting with the letter pairs LB and LC from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was LR 90-01 to LR 99-99 .
At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinctive sign ARN . It was issued until March 14, 1995, most recently for the Ilm district , where it has been available again since November 29, 2012.
