geography

Rippersroda lies on a plateau between the valleys of Zahmer Gera in the east and Wilder Gera in the west. The place is about 400 meters above sea level. The 506 meter high Graefenrodaer Berg rises to the south .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 856. The name of the place, like all places that end in -roda, can be traced back to a clearing that could have been carried out here by a man named Ruprecht. A church was built in the 17th century using a previous building. Over the centuries agriculture and forest work were the main occupations of the residents. In addition, the light-colored fuller's earth , which was mainly used by tanners , was mined near the village .

Rippersroda belonged to the Liebenstein Castle district and from the middle of the 19th century to the Ohrdruf office in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . On August 1, 1975, Rippersroda was incorporated into the community of Neusiß . On January 1, 1991 it was reclassified to the city of Plaue .

At the end of the village in the direction of Angelroda you will find an old bakery that was renovated a few years ago. A few decades ago it was still used by the local women as a communal oven. Today this is only shown during festivities.

Economy and Transport

Rippersroda is an agricultural place. In addition to a farm, there is also a horse stud where children and adults can learn to ride and where riding holidays are organized. A planned children's holiday camp at the entrance to the village was not completed by the fall of the Wall . The shell structures are still in ruins.

The only road out of town leads to Plaue .
