Unterpörlitz is a district of the city of Ilmenau in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ).
geography
The place is on the northern slope of the Pörlitzer Höhe, a 4 km long, 570 meter high ridge that marks the watershed between Ilm and Gera on the northern outskirts of Ilmenau. The south of the place is directly on the heights, the north in a valley that is drained to the Wipfra . To the south of the village lies the urban area of Ilmenau, which flows seamlessly into Unterpörlitz. To the north there are large pine forests, favored by the sandy soil. Other neighboring towns of Unterpörlitz are Oberpörlitz , 1 km away to the west , Heyda , 3 km north and Bücheloh , 4 km east.
history
Unterpörlitz was in 1351 first documented during the construction of the residential area on April 1, 1981 Pörlitzer height of Ilmenau incorporated. The place is likely to be older than Ilmenau, however, as it is much better located and was preferred to Ilmenau Land when it was founded. The origins of Unterpörlitz are probably in the 8th to 10th centuries in a Sorbian - Slavic settlement, which can be recognized by the name ending -litz .

politics
The mayor of the Unterpörlitz district has been the former luge rider Ute Oberhoffner since 2004 . She was last confirmed in office in the local elections in Thuringia on May 26, 2019. It is supported by a local council of eight members.
Economy and Transport
Unterpörlitz is an agricultural place. Today most of the residents work in Ilmenau.
Several roads lead from Unterpörlitz into the Ilmenau urban area, there are also roads to Oberpörlitz and Heyda . In 1998 the place got a rail connection. At that time, the Ilmenau-Pörlitzer Höhe stop was set up on the Erfurt – Ilmenau railway line . It is located about 1 km south of Unterpörlitz. The A 71 runs 1 km north of the village and spans the Wipfratal with the Streichgrund and Altwipfergrund bridges.
