geography

Wümbach is located three kilometers west of Gräfinau-Angstedt in the valley of the Wümbach , a brook that flows into the Ilm about three kilometers east . The city of Ilmenau is three kilometers west of the village . Wümbach is about 460 meters above sea level. The 504 meter high Wümberg rises to the southeast. North of the village is the 527 meter high Wolfsberg.

history

Wümbach was first mentioned in 1282. The history of Wümbach began with the name Wintbach. During its history, the name changed several times, and Wümbach has only had its current name since 1839. Until 1920 Wümbach belonged to the office of Gehren in the sovereignty of the principality or Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . From 1920 to 1952 the place belonged to the district of Arnstadt . The district was divided in 1952 and from then on Wümbach belonged to the Ilmenau district. In 1994 the Ilmenau and Arnstadt districts were reunited under the name Ilm District. Wümbach merged on April 6, 1994 with Bücheloh and Gräfinau-Angstedt to form the new community of Wolfsberg . This was incorporated into the city of Ilmenau on July 6, 2018 with other communities.

In 1841 Wümbach had 90 houses and 442 inhabitants.

politics

The honorary local mayor is Alexander König. The Wümbach local council consists of 6 members.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided by blue over gold; above a right-turned, striding golden lion, below a blue wave bar, accompanied above by four and below by three green linden leaves. "

The talking element in the coat of arms is the blue wavy bar. This is accompanied by seven linden leaves, which go back to the motif of the seven linden trees in an older community seal. The lion is based on the family coat of arms of the Schwarzburg counts and refers to the centuries-long membership of Wümbach in the Schwarzburg dominion.

The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Frank Diemar .

Protestant church

The baroque church of Wümbach stands on the edge of the village laid out as a street village. Together with the village community center, it forms the center of the village. The oldest parts of the building date from 1599. Other dates indicate the years 1727 and 1756. At the end of the 19th century the interior of the church was given its color scheme, which was renewed at the end of the 1990s. The organ by the organ builder Johann Stephan Schmaltz from Wandersleben was installed in 1758. Anton Ludwig Ernst Trutschel learned to play the organ here. The organ was almost completely renewed around 1860 by the organ builder Friedrich Wilhelm Holland from Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig , restored in 2006 and 2007 and inaugurated in July 2007 as part of the 725th anniversary of the town.

Economy and Transport

In Wümbach there is the "Wümbach-Ost" industrial park with an area of 6.83 hectares, on which several companies have settled. In addition, there are some smaller businesses and an agricultural enterprise in the village.

Streets from Ilmenau , Gräfinau-Angstedt , Langewiesen and Bücheloh meet in Wümbach .

The high-speed railway line Nuremberg – Erfurt has been in operation since December 2017, running approximately 1 km east of the town. On the outskirts of the village is the Ilmenau-Wolfsberg train station , which is used purely as an overtaking station .

Wolfsberg landfill

Until May 1, 2005, the district garbage dump of the southern Ilm district was located in the municipal area, but according to a new Thuringian law it may no longer be used and has been closed. The garbage from the Ilm district is collected in a newly built collection station on the site and transported by rail to Leuna for incineration .

Others

In a description of the place from 1841 there is a reference to a tombstone on which a man and an ox were depicted and which bore the following inscription:

“By this ox push, I came into the lap of heaven. One went to blissful rest, through you, you cattle you ”.
