The Pörlitzer Höhe is on the state road from Ilmenau to Unterpörlitz . It is connected to local public transport by city and regional bus routes as well as the Ilmenau Pörlitzer Höhe stop. It lies on the Erfurt – Ilmenau railway line .

When the railway line from Erfurt to Ilmenau was opened on August 6, 1879, the stop did not initially exist.

When the prefabricated building area was built in the 1980s , thought was given for the first time to setting up a stop on the railway line that ran directly past it. However, these plans were not implemented for the time being. After German reunification and the incorporation of the neighboring towns of Oberpörlitz and Unterpörlitz to Ilmenau, negotiations began again with Deutsche Bahn about the establishment of a stop. This time the talks were successful, so that the breakpoint was built in 1995 and went into operation. In addition to Deutsche Bahn, the city of Ilmenau and the Ilm district also contributed to the financing. The infrastructure for the residential area Pörlitzer Höhe and the neighboring towns of Ober- and Unterpörlitz and also for the north-western parts of Ilmenau has been improved by the new HP.

The stop has the character of an S-Bahn station. It consists of a 110-meter-long platform on which there is a ticket machine, a bus shelter and a covered bicycle parking space. There are no acoustic or visual passenger information systems at the stop.

The station is served by the Süd-Thüringen-Bahn with the railway lineSTB 46Headed for Erfurt – Ilmenau. This runs every hour in each direction and is compressed to half an hour at peak times (4 trains per working day of theSTx 45Erfurt-Ilmenau). The railway line will be on weekends station Ilmenau out of the train station Rennsteig extended.
