Daniel Schultheiß (born August 13, 1980 in Sonneberg ) is a German scientist and politician ( non-party ). He has been Lord Mayor of the city of Ilmenau since November 2018 .

Life, education and professional activities

After graduating from high school in Sonneberg, Schultheiß began studying at the Technical University of Ilmenau in 2001 . In 2007 he completed his studies in applied media studies there. He then did his doctorate first as a scholarship holder and later as a research assistant in the field of media and communication management on the subject of internet-based digital games . He completed his doctorate in 2010. Schultheiss then worked in the same specialist area as a post-doc and project manager until 2018 . His research focus during this time was in the area of ​​online communication. He has two sons and lives with his partner in Ilmenau ( Unterpörlitz district ).

Political career

In 2009, Schultheiß was elected to the city ​​council of Ilmenau for the “Pro Bockwurst” voting community. In 2012 he ran for the first time as a non-partisan candidate for the “ electoral alliance for Ilmenau” and won 29.1% of the votes cast against the long-time incumbent Gerd-Michael Seeber ( CDU ). After this election he took over the leadership of the BBW parliamentary group. He was re-elected to the city council in May 2014.

In August 2018, Schultheiss was nominated as a joint candidate for the “Wahlbündnis für Ilmenau” (consisting of the parties Die Linke , SPD , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and the electoral associations Pro Bockwurst and Bürgerbündnis) for the mayoral election took place in the fall. He was elected in the first ballot with 51.4% of the votes cast and took office in November 2018.
