Gerd-Michael Seeber

Gerd-Michael Seeber (born July 29, 1949 in Ilmenau ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and was Lord Mayor of the city of Ilmenau from 1990 to 2018 .

Life

Seeber grew up in Oehrenstock. After finishing school he did an apprenticeship as a glass blower. Then in 1969 he began to study building material process engineering at the University of Architecture and Construction in Weimar . In 1974 he completed his studies as a graduate engineer. Seeber worked from 1974 to 1989 in the technical glass industry as a secondary raw material officer and responsible for materials economics.

In 1990 he was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Ilmenau. He was re-elected in 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2012. In 2013 he was one of the 17 mayors in Germany who had been in office for more than 20 years. He did not run for the mayor election on October 21, 2018 because he had reached the age limit.

On June 18, 2019, Seeber was elected honorary councilor of the district by the district council of the Ilm district.

Seeber is married and has three children.
