history

The first written mention of the place dates back to the year 876. The slightly higher church, which was built in the 12th century and expanded in 1717, bears the name of St. Jacobus , the patron saint of merchants and carters and in the Middle Ages was the contact point for traders who crossed the place on the trade routes towards Nuremberg or Saalfeld . Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen .

In the GDR the community belonged to the Arnstadt district in the Erfurt district . On August 1, 1975 Branchewinda was incorporated into Dannheim . On March 25, 1994, Dannheim (with Branchewinda) became part of the Wipfratal community . Branchewinda also became the seat of the local government due to its central location.
