Dosdorf is a district of Arnstadt in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ).

geography

Dosdorf is on the left of the Gera about five kilometers south of Arnstadt in Plaueschen Grund . The place is at the exit of the deep valley, a two kilometer long gorge that has dug 100 meters deep into the limestone rock. To the southwest is the 495.3 meter high Schweinsberg. To the east of Dosdorf are the Reinsberge with elevations of up to 600 meters.

history

Dosdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1272. The place is probably even older, as the church can be assigned to the early 13th century. The church is dedicated to St. Otmar . It became famous for being the largest roost of the Great Mouse-eared Mouse . Every summer more than 2000 animals live in the roof of the church. The church tower has been designated as a FFH area Evangelical Church Dosdorf (DE-5231-302) with a size of 0.01  ha since 2004 . Extensive protective measures are being taken to maintain the occurrence, in particular by the Bat Foundation. The church received a (new?) Organ around 1890 from the organ builder Adam Eifert from Stadtilm.

In the early phase of the village's existence, wine was grown on the sunny slopes of the Geratal near Dosdorf. The most famous buyers of the wine were the Counts of Käfernburg . Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . The place was incorporated into the municipality of Siegelbach on August 1, 1975 . Since April 14, 1994 Dosdorf has been part of the city of Arnstadt.

Personalities

Between 1720 and 1733 von Siegelbach worked from the geographer and polymath Johann Gottfried Gregorii alias Melissantes as a Lutheran pastor in Dosdorf. At that time he took care of a new school building and the renovation of the church. On a part-time basis, he continued to write his books, which were important for the development of geography , cartography and genealogy as well as the transmission and distribution of legends and which were distributed beyond the German-speaking area.

politics

Local mayor is Rüdiger Carnarius. He heads a local council of four other members. The local mayor and the local council are also responsible for Espenfeld .

Economy and Transport

Dosdorf is an agricultural place. There used to be numerous mills on the Gera. Today only one Dosdorf mill still exists: the Hartmann mill from the 17th century, which has since been converted into a small hydroelectric power station. A little outside, on the other side of the Arnstadt-Plaue railway line, there was a brick factory until the 1990s. Clay was mined here and made into bricks.

The place is on the former B4 , which was downgraded to L 3004 in 2004 and connects Ilmenau to Arnstadt via Plaue . The Erfurt – Ilmenau railway runs in the Geratal, but Dosdorf does not have its own train station. The next train station is Plaue 2 km south.
