Siegelbach is a district of the city of Arnstadt in Thuringia with approx. 300 inhabitants.

geography

Siegelbach is a clustered village and is located about three kilometers south of Arnstadt on the east side of the Gera valley . The Reinsberge rise to the southeast of the village . Siegelbach is about 315 meters above sea level.

About a kilometer west of the village, on the main road Arnstadt - Plaue , is the Siegelbach-owned service area and guesthouse Triglismühle , whose name can allegedly be traced back to "three donkeys" that are said to have pulled a cart to deliver to the mill, as well as some more houses.

history

Former fortified church

The place was founded in the Middle Ages , as indicated by the remarkable Romanesque fortified church of St. Remigius with its old stone altar and the church square surrounded by natural stone walls. The choice of the Frankish saint Remigius as patron saint for the church is probably related to possessions of the diocese of Reims in the Arnstadt area, which are attested for the Carolingian era (9th century).

Today the interior of this church is of a simple baroque style. JS Bach and G. Kellner have already played on the organ, which was built in 1727 by the Arnstadt organ builder Johann Anton Weise . For many centuries, Siegelbach belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality or Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , before it became part of the newly formed Arnstadt district in 1920, which was re-established as Ilm district in 1994 after its division in 1952 .

Espenfeld was incorporated on January 24, 1974, and Dosdorf on August 1, 1975 . On April 14, 1994 Siegelbach became a district of the city of Arnstadt.

Personalities

Between 1720 and 1733 the geographer and polymath Johann Gottfried Gregorii alias Melissantes worked as a Lutheran pastor in Siegelbach. During that time he provided a modern school building, improved the church's equipment (e.g. pewter candlesticks) and initiated the construction of the sage organ in 1727. In Siegelbach, too, he continued to write his books, which were important for the development of geography , cartography and genealogy as well as the transmission and distribution of legends, and which were distributed beyond the German-speaking area.

politics

The district mayor is Karl-Heinz Trefflich. He heads a local council with four more members.

Economy and Transport

Inauguration of the bridge

Siegelbach is an agricultural place. In addition to plant production, there is intensive forestry in the surrounding foothills of the Thuringian Forest. In addition to conifers, the utilization of beech is of great importance. Many residents work in Arnstadt.

There is only one road from Siegelbach that connects the town with the former B 4 . Siegelbach is located directly on the Erfurt – Ilmenau railway line , but has no train station. The place is also on the Gera cycle path .

In October 2006, the old bridge over the Gera from 1925 was demolished. A new building followed in 2007, which was inaugurated on October 3, 2007.
