geography

Hausen is located between Arnstadt in the north-west and Stadtilm in the south-east in the Wipfra valley at an altitude of around 330 meters. About one kilometer west of the village runs the federal highway 71 , behind which the 388 meter high Schlossberg rises. The valley of the Wipfra runs to the north and south and in the east of Hausen begins a peripheral plain of the Thuringian Basin , which takes up the entire north-east of the Ilm district. The stone trench, which ends at the Lengefeld desert, also leads to the east. Neighboring towns are Marlishausen , which has grown close to Hausen, in the north and Görbitzhausen in the south.

history

Hausen was first mentioned in a document in 932. Until 1920 Hausen was part of the sovereignty of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , since then it has belonged to the Arnstadt district , one of the forerunners of the Ilm district. On May 20, 1963, the place was incorporated into the municipality of Marlishausen and together with this on March 25, 1994 it was reclassified into the newly founded municipality of Wipfratal . On January 1, 2019, Wipfratal was incorporated into Arnstadt.

Attractions

St. Nicholas Church

The Protestant parish church of St. Nicholas is worth seeing . This former chapel of a peculiar shape is of Romanesque origin and was rebuilt in the 15th, 16th and 19th centuries. The interior got its present appearance around 1700. The winged altar dates from around 1500 and the organ from 1842.

Economy and Transport

The best-known company from Hausen is the Naturerlebnishof , an organic farm in the former mill, which on the one hand produces products for sale on the farm, but on the other hand also accepts holiday guests and organizes events for school classes. The farm keeps water buffalo and Cameroon sheep , among other things, and is committed to environmental and nature conservation. Several episodes of the docu-soap The Buffalo Ranch were filmed in the yard.

Streets connect Hausen with Marlishausen in the north, Görbitzhausen in the south and Branchewinda in the southwest. Arnstadt is six kilometers northwest and the A71 Arnstadt-Süd exit about two kilometers north. The Arnstadt – Saalfeld railway line runs through Hausen, and the nearest train station is about one kilometer north in Marlishausen.
