Osthausen is about 14 km east of Arnstadt and 20 km south of Erfurt at an altitude of 340 to 350 m above sea level. It is located in the historical area and today's landscape line Längwitz . The Schafbach flows through the village . The Osthausen Forest lies between Osthausen and Kranichfeld .

history

Osthausen was first mentioned in a document in 1271. As today's clustered village, the village probably emerged from a round . The Church of St. James was built in its current form around 1500. Before that there was also a chapel of the same name. The rectory was built from 1626 to 1628 and was expanded further in 1704. The church has been repaired and rebuilt several times over the centuries, but it had to be closed in 2001 due to acute danger of collapse. On May 16, 1968 it was merged with the municipality of Wülfershausen to form the municipality of Osthausen-Wülfershausen.

Economy and Transport

Today Osthausen is a settlement and residential area with handicrafts, trade as well as agriculture and forestry. In the village there is the state primary school "Astrid Lindgren", a kindergarten, a sports field and a sports hall.

The L 1060 runs from Osthausen to Wülfershausen and the K 5 from Elleben to Achelstädt . The A 4 runs about 8 kilometers north of the village and the A 71 about 6 kilometers west , which can be reached via the Arnstadt-Süd junction . There are also several cycle routes and a bridle path through the town.
