history
A castle site in Alkersleben once secured the crossing of the road over the Wipfra from Arnstadt towards Lobeda . A square hill still bears witness to this fortification.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1257 as Alkersleibin . In Alkersleben there was a manor whose lords and representatives of the church determined life in the village. In 1816 a family bought the manor. In 1844 the stone bridge was built over the Wipfra. Until 1920 the place belonged to the office of Arnstadt in the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen ( suzerainty ).
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Ettischleben was incorporated.

Economy and Infrastructure
Alkersleben is an agricultural place.
A Dutch investor had been planning to build a large pig breeding facility with 22,500 animals and a liquid manure tank with a capacity of 6,500 cubic meters on the site of a previous dairy cattle facility since the end of 2005 , where 2000 cows were kept until the fall of the Wall . Against this very controversial project, especially the possible odor nuisance in a wide area, over 2000 objections were directed by citizens and organizations. The project was approved by the Thuringia regional administration office at the beginning of April 2009 and has now been implemented.
Roads lead from Alkersleben to Dornheim and Osthausen-Wülfershausen . To the east of the town is the Arnstadt-Alkersleben airfield . Historic Flight Days and Speed Days take place here on a regular basis .
